  • What type of patients do you accept?
Everyone is welcome! We take patients both with or without insurance, including workplace injuries. We are able to directly bill through: Sun Life, Medavie Blue Cross, and those who take part in the Telus eClaims group, shown below. If you do not see your provider or have questions about coverage please give us a call!
  • Can I book an appointment online?
Yes! Please use our online portal to book an appointment online. To access the online portal click the button below. When booking an appointment please note our cancellation policy which can be found here.
  • Do you require a doctor's prescription?
We do not need a referral from your doctor. However, some insurance companies require a medical prescription in order to reimburse your treatments. You can find more information about your insurance coverage and requirements in your company’s health insurance brochure. During our assessment, questions will also be asked to rule out potentially more serious conditions that may require a referral back to your doctor. Most people believe they need imaging such as x-rays and MRIs before beginning physiotherapy, however, we base our treatment on how your symptoms respond to movements more so than what an image reveals. Unless you suspect a fracture, then avoid waiting weeks or months for an image and start your road to recovery today.
  • Does MCP cover my treatments?
No, since we are a private clinic, MCP does not cover these services. However, if certain conditions are met you may qualify for publicly funded physiotherapy at your nearest hospital with the hospital insurance plan. Please call the general line at Carbonear General Hospital for more information @ 709-945-5111
  • Will my insurance cover my treatments?
Physiotherapy is almost always covered by private or work insurance coverage. Our clinic can bill some insurance companies directly (we will need your policy group and certificate numbers) and depending on your coverage, you might have to pay the difference (which is tax deductible at the end of the year). If you have been involved in a work accident the sessions are paid by WPNL with some exceptions. If you were involved in an automobile accident the sessions are usually paid for by your automobile insurance once your personal insurance coverage has been exhausted. Please contact your specific insurance provider for further questions.
  • Can I claim these services as medical expenses?
Yes, since Physiotherapy Services are considered medical services, you can deduct your physiotherapy receipts as medical expenses from taxes at the end of the year. Any amount not covered by your insurance company can also be claimed.
  • Can you treat multiple areas?
Each session is per site with the exception of motor vehicle accidents and workplace injuries. We do this for a number of reasons but mainly to provide quality care for each site of injury. When booking your appointment, ensure you inform the therapist which injury you are having treated so it can be documented and billed correctly. Pain is complex, and often times it can refer to other areas of the body. So sometimes treating the neck will also reduce your shoulder pain. This is why a detailed assessment is so important for your treatment plan.
  • What to expect from my first visit?
During the first visit the therapist will first conduct the history portion where they will ask you some questions about the problem in order to determine if the problem is appropriate for therapy. The second part will consist of performing certain tests, movements, and positions that will allow the therapist to analyze the problem and what irritates the problem or provides some relief. Once the therapist understands what is the source of the problem, what category it belongs in, they will explain to you what needs to be done, or they might send you home to perform a test movement for a few days – which will help them clarify the most effective treatment options for your specific case.
  • How long are appointments?
The initial assessment will usually be 1 hour. This extra time is needed to gather all the important information we need about your problem to provide the best care. Come 15 minutes early to read through our consent form and provide our office administrator with any insurance information that we may require to be able to do direct billing. Follow-up appointments vary depending on how you’re feeling. If you are feeling a lot better, the therapist will review your exercises and provide appropriate feedback and give you opportunities to ask questions. If there has been no change or you are feeling worse, the appointment can run up to 30 minutes to determine the next best step in your care. Specialty appointments such as vestibular and concussion assessments and treatments may be longer in duration, please call us for more information.
  • Will I see a physiotherapist or an assistant for follow-ups?
At our clinic, all sessions are one-on-one with a licensed physiotherapist. Our therapists does not treat multiple patients during the same session, this way you get the full undivided attention of a highly skilled therapist at every visit.
  • How should I dress for my appointment?
This depends on the body part that you are being seen for. As a general rule, the clothes should allow easy access for the therapist to see the area that is problematic. If you have a knee injury please wear shorts. The clothes should allow you to move freely so avoid jeans. If you are coming for a foot problem, don’t forget to bring the shoes you normally wear when you experience pain.
  • Do you offer virtual assessments/treatments?
Not at this time. We are in the process of setting up for this service. We will keep this site and portal up to date with the latest information, or you can give us a call at the clinic.
